The First Anniversary of the COVID-19 Lockdown
Opportunities to connect and build a healthier community THIS WEEK
This week as we mark the first anniversary of COVID permanently changing our lives, I want to invite you to join me for some special events.
First, please join me and my friend & colleague, Dr. Humphreys, as we lead a Science Cafe conversation about the Virus, Variants, and Vaccines on
Thursday, March 18th at 6:30 pm on Zoom (www.tinyurl.com/3Vsciencecafe).
Think of it as a virtual happy (educational) hour!
Second, I invite you to listen to me on the podcast Empowering Conversations with Valerie. In the episode, titled Meet Dr. Dawson - Strength Through Adversity, Civility, Beauty, & Feeling Deeply, I talk about my core values, my passion for public health & competitive swimming, and my mental health.
Finally, on my Monday, March 22nd Facebook Live session (7 pm ET on the Crawford County PA COVID-19 Information page), I plan to talk about the COVID-19 vaccines. The hour will be devoted to understanding how vaccines work, what herd immunity is, why vaccine hesitancy has been ongoing for centuries, and the role vaccines play in decreasing the community spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Before next Monday, I want to hear from YOU - and your friends & family. I firmly believe that all educators must start by listening to others. So please take two minutes to answer two simple questions for me using this form. I want to hear from EVERYONE — people who are fully vaccinated, not planning to get vaccinated, worried and undecided about what to do, or struggling with moral or ethical questions regarding vaccine development.
My husband and I have both had both doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Because of the conversation on Monday nights we were not hesitant to sign up for it. I have heard many people say they will not get the vaccine until the government makes them get it. And many of them contracted the virus. I don’t understand it, but that is them. I can only control what goes on in my home and who is in my circle. They definitely are not in my circle. Education is the ticket to making informed decisions, so thank you Dr D for helping us make informed decisions.
