I'm 7.5 months pregnant and was recommended by my Dr. To get my second booster. When I went to get the bivalent one the nurse at the pharmacy wouldn't give it to me before saying it wasn't recommended for pregnant women, that I was an experiment and my baby could die. I wish I was paraphrasing. Obviously she and I have fundamentally different views regarding vaccines and public health but the experience has me spooked. Is the bivalent booster specifically, any less studied or safe for me to get?

Mara, I am SO sorry to hear about your experience. And appreciate your willingness to share it and ask questions about what she said. Unfortunately, I have had a similar experience where the pharmacists told my (then) 13 year old daughter that the vaccine was experimental, would not protect her against COVID, and would likely take away her ability to have children in the future. It was a horrible experience. So my heart goes out to you -- it is awful to hear those words, even if it is someone who you know does not share your views on medicine or public health. It still hurts and is uncomfortable.

That said, the new bivalent shot is contains the same ingredients and works in the same way as the original SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. The one difference is that the formula for the mRNA now contains the Omicron genetic material. The shots have been studied since March 2020. We have both human and animal studies demonstrating the safety and effectiveness of both shots. Neither has decades worth of safety data; however, the vaccine goes into your body and stimulates the immune system. And then it is metabolized and excreted. The parts of the vaccine do not hang around causing damage to your body (as some would claim). Read more here -- https://beckydawson.substack.com/p/a-guide-to-navigating-vaccine-research.

After my experience at a local pharmacy, I called the store manager and corporate headquarters and filed a formal complaint. I also have decided to boycott that pharmacy.

The American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists all agree that the vaccine is safe and effective. This one pharmacist was out of line and not speaking about medicine or pharmacology. They were pushing unresearched/unsupported agenda on you. I am sorry.

Thank you so much for your response! I'm sorry your daughter had that experience as well. It definitely didn't feel good. I have filed a complaint with this particular pharmacy's ethic hotline, and wait to see where that goes. Thank you too for helping to put my mind at ease that this new booster isn't fundamentally different than the ones I've already gotten and for providing some much needed perspective. I'll be finding a new pharmacy and rescheduling my booster soon!

I tested positive today, mainly headache and face aches. But I do seem to have a pain in my back, but could be because I did yard work yesterday etc. Just can not get comfortable in the chair.
